Brown students & faculty protest the return of ROTC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A coalition of students and faculty at Brown University is making it clear that they do not want ROTC back on campus.

Brown ended its on-campus ROTC program back in 1969, so current Brown students take part in ROTC through the chapter at Providence College.

The group The Brown Coalition Against Special Privileges for ROTC, or CASPR, says bringing ROTC back sends an implied endorsement of the military.

Brown University panel discus nuclear safety

PROVIDENCE, RI – Brown University will host an Earth Day panel on nuclear energy on Friday.

The student-led Japanese Cultural Association organized the event, and says the panelists will bring a variety of perspectives to the aftermath of the earthquake in Japan.

Association co-president Rie Yamamoto says the goal is to draw attention to the issue in the U.S. and show support for citizens of Japan.

RI medical board suspends doctor

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Rhode Island Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline has suspended the practicing rights of a local doctor.

Over the past eight years Robert Paolella has faced several disciplinary charges, including making false entries in patient records and giving out prescriptions without having complete medical records.

Most recently, he was admitted to a psychiatric unit after police found him barricaded in his home and in possession of several firearms.

RI Supreme Court paves way for legal challenge to Deepwater Wind

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
A decision released Friday by the Rhode Island Supreme Court means two corporations can challenge a key part of a wind farm planned off of Block Island.

The state Public Utilities Commission last year approved a pact for National Grid to buy electricity from Deepwater Wind's wind farm. Toray Plastics and Polytop Corporation say that agreement would cost them what they call millions of dollars in above-market electricity.
