Holyoke, Mass. – Potential outages and other disruptions on New England's power grid will be spotted more quickly as the region's grid operator installs new equipment paid for by federal stimulus money.
ISO-New England says it will use an $8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to install high-speed sensors that monitor voltage and other conditions on the grid. The smart-grid devices will relay information 30 times a second, up from once every four seconds.

Providence, R.I. – The winners of the 33rd America's Cup race toured Newport on Thursday, as state officials campaign for the return of the yachting competition to Rhode Island waters. The famed trophy was also on display in the city.
State officials believe the return of the America's Cup would boost revenue and tourism and shine an international media spotlight on Rhode Island. The state hosted the competition for decades until losing the race to Australia in the early 80's.
