Providence Arts Club

Providence – Because of a lack of exhibition space and artist gathering places in Providence, a group of artists and collectors formed an art club in the city.

While that sounds as something that could happen in 2002, this occurred 12 years ago when the Providence Art Club was formed. The club, which is often compared with its contemporary AS220, now has some 700 members and changes its gallery exhibits every two weeks.

Lead Paint Mistrial

Providence – Makers of lead paint dodged a legal bullet Tuesday. A judge declared a mistrial in the state's high-profile lawsuit against eight paing companies. A six person jury was deadlocked at four to two in favor of the defense

Jurors sent a note to Superior Court Judge Michael Silverstein, saying they had een stuck since they first began deliberating last week. Silverstein declared a mistrial.
