Algae no longer a problem at Turner Reservoir
Providence, R.I. – Rhode Islanders no longer need to steer clear of the Turner Reservoir in East Providence.
Since August, The health department has warned residents of the water at the reservoir as well as at nearby Omega Pond and Ten Mile River. All three bodies of water were covered with a dense blue green algae bloom.
The toxic algae, which can cause rashes, eye irritation, and nausea, had turned the water bright green. But now, the water is back to its normal color and test results show the algae cell count to back to acceptable levels. So, the health department is lifting its advisory.
Residents can now boat, swim, and fish at the locations as well as let their pets drink from the water.
