PROVIDENCE, RI – Federal lawmakers have introduced legislation to make the Blackstone River Valley a national park. Senators from Rhode Island and Massachusetts say the designation would preserve the historic region that stretches from Providence to Worcester, and bring federal money and tourism dollars to the area. Earlier this year the National Park Service conducted a study to determine whether the 400,000-acre corridor met the national park criteria. The final decision is up to Congress.
