The Army Corps of Engineers has extended the comment period for the wind farm off Block Island to early February. It’s the second time the corps has extended the deadline.
The Army Corps of Engineers extended the initial comment period last November after the residents asked for more time to wade through the various reports on the Block Island Wind Farm. The Corps of Engineers’ Mike Elliot says this second extension is to make sure all comments are heard by both state and federal officials.
“We basically want to try and keep it open until the end of the state notices just to make sure we didn’t get left out in the cold for any kind of public comments,” he says.
Elliot says comments can be made directly to the Corps of Engineers. He says the Corps will determine if any comment or concern warrants a public hearing. He says construction on the offshore wind farm is now estimated to begin in 2015.
