Good news, bad news for public schools
The good news this week is that American students stack up better against their international counterparts, if socio-economic background is taken into account. Edweek has a good roundup of the new study by the Stanford Graduate School of Education and the Economic Policy Institute.
It’s good news for public school teachers who have long argued that American education is not as shoddy as the scores might suggest. On the other hand, it’s discouraging news for advocates for disadvantaged students, who argue that schools must find better ways to reach all students.
