Providence, RI – The Chafee administration is wasting no time in finding a replacement for the Director of the Department of Health, Dr. David Gifford.
The Governor's office says it hopes to find a new director by the time Gifford leaves his position at the end of February.
The administration plans to announce the members of a search committee by the end of the week. The Governor's spokesman says the committee will not limit itself to candidates from within the Ocean State.
Dr. David Gifford has served as the Director of the Department of Health for six years. He surprised the Chafee administration with his resignation late Friday afternoon.
Gifford says he's leaving to pursue his interests in improving health care quality and delivery.
