Brown Task Force Releases Interim Report on Sexual Assault

Sexual violence is a problem at Brown University, and university officials should take immediate action to improve the process for responding to sexual assault, according to an interim report from Brown’s Task Force on Sexual Assault.

The report includes more than two dozen recommendations, including the adoption of trained fact-finders to investigate reports of sexual violence.

Brown Concludes Probe into Kelly Lecture Protest

Brown President Christina Paxson says a protest that forced former New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly to halt a lecture last year was a violation of Brown's policy on the free exchange of ideas.

"There is no doubt that the disruption of Kelly's lecture represented a violation of these policies," Paxson wrote in her final response to the incident, which was posted this week on Brown's website and sent in an email to Brown students and faculty.

Brown Corporation Discusses Controversy over Sexual Assault

Officials at Brown University say they expect a full report on the school’s sexual assault policy to be complete by the end of the fall semester. The Brown Corporation discussed the issue at its quarterly meeting on Friday, just before Brown’s commencement ceremonies got underway.

And the Honorary Degree Recipients Are...

This year, Brown University plans to honor acclaimed authors Jeffrey Eugenides and Lois Lowry, both Brown alums, along with U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas Perez and seven other Brown graduates.

At the Rhode Island School of Design, commencement festivities will include an honorary degree for designer Todd Oldham and a keynote speech from designer Bruce Mau.
