Providence College Friars hoopsters beat St. Johns's

The Providence College basketball team, in their biggest win of the season, have defeated St. Johns's in the Big East tournament at the Madison Square Garden. The victory sets up a showdown tomorrow in the Big East against Seton Hall, which won an in an upset over Villanova. If the Friars defeat Seton Hall, they will very likely be headed to the NCAA basketball tournament for the first time in years.

Rutgers Eyes URI’s Hurley

Rutgers University is reportedly interested in University of Rhode Island Basketball Coach Dan Hurley, as officials seek a new athletic director. Former Head Coach Mike Rice got the boot this week after a video showed him yelling homophobic slurs at players, along with other abusive behavior.

The real losers in March Madness Hoops

Thoughts to ponder while watching March Madness: This is the best time of the year for the college basketball junkies among us. What is more thrilling than wall-to-wall televised hoops generously salted with upsets, buzzer beaters and the endless arguments (and bets) over brackets, conferences and the Final Four. All played out in the college atmosphere of  the NCAA tournaments with all the trappings of student cheers, painted faces, pompoms, cheerleaders, crowds fully clad in team colors and the inevitable prancing mascots. Even President Obama fills out his brackets!
