New Weather Stations Provide Critical Data During Storms

National Grid has completed installing the last of seven weather stations throughout Rhode Island. This program collects local weather information in real time.

The weather stations are strategically located in Coventry, Bristol, Charlestown, Exeter, Hopkinton, and Little Compton. The town of Westerly has had its weather station for only a couple of weeks, and already it’s proved to be useful, said Amy Grzybowski, the town’s emergency management director.

Rhode Island's First Farm-Based Brewery Opens

Farm-based breweries can now sell limited quantities of beer; only 72 ounces. That's about one six pack.

Bills that would have given farmers a license to sell unlimited amounts of beer at their farm breweries and at farmer’s markets didn’t pass in the most recent legislative session.  But, Rhode Island has just licensed the state's first farm brewery.

Gun-Rights Supporters Out Spent in Exeter Recall

Campaign finance records show that gun-rights supporters were outspent during the recall of four Exeter town council members back in December.

Back in December there was a special election to recall four Exeter town council members for their support of a move to take gun permitting out of the hands of the town clerk and let the attorney general’s office do the permitting.

Exeter Town Councilors Hold On To Their Seats

Four Exeter town councilors have easily survived a recall election spawned by critics of a plan to transfer control of concealed weapons permits from the town  to the state.  Unlike most towns, Exeter is so small it has no police department and councilors felt the town  clerk didn’t have the resources needed to do the job properly. The results of the election plus reaction from both sides.
