RI Arts Council Refutes Claims In Report Calling For Its Elimination

The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts is taking umbrage with a new report claiming taxpayers are paying for tasteless and offensive art.

The report from the Rhode Island Center for Freedom and Prosperity claims taxpayer money was used to fund an erotic holiday party, underwear art, and an international film festival that shows movies some would consider “depraved.” But RISCA refutes those claims saying it didn’t fund any party or underwear art, but gave a grant a few years ago to an artist mentioned in a blog about those events.

Home-based RI Child Care Workers Overwhelmingly Approve To Unionize

State-subsidized, home-based child care providers have voted overwhelmingly to join a union.

The crowd cheered at the state Labor Relations Board when the results of the child care vote were announced. 390 voted to join the Service Employees International Union. 19 voted against it.

Stenhouse: Rhode Island Needs to Take More Urgent Steps

As Rhode Island tries to overcome high unemployment, some observers argue that more urgent steps are needed to spark the economy. One of the groups making that argument is a free-market think tank, the Rhode Island Center for Freedom and Prosperity. The center’s CEO, Mike Stenhouse, stopped by our studio to talk about a proposal to eliminate the sales tax and other issues.
