arts en RI Foundation Announces MacColl Johnson Fellowship Recipients <p>The Rhode Island Foundation has announced the winners of MacColl Johnson Fellowship. The $25-thousand fellowships are for the fine and performing arts.</p><p></p><p>The Foundation gives out three MacColl Johnson fellowships each year to Rhode Island-based artists, composers, and writers.</p><p>This year the fellowships were given to visual artists Leslie Hirst, Anthony Giannini, and Daniel Sousa. The first artist to show there is Morris Nathanson, an interior designer and artist. Mixed Magic co-founder Ricardo Pitts-Wiley says the art gallery will complement the existing performing arts spaces.</p><p>“Well, it’s part of a long, kind of a long process at Mixed Magic Theatre to develop a full-service, if you will, a full-bodied performing art space and the art gallery is really the third leg of that development,” says Pitts-Wiley.</p><p>The art gallery at Mixed Magic Theatre opens on Sunday.</p> Thu, 14 Feb 2013 18:49:08 +0000 Catherine Welch 10363 at
