non-profit en Providence Seeks Audit Of Local Non-Profit <p>The city of Providence is seeking to audit the non-profit organization the Urban League of Rhode Island.</p><p>The League is trying to sell their headquarters, despite a contract with the city.</p><p></p><p>In 1990 Providence sold the Urban League of Rhode Island their current headquarters for one dollar.</p><p>The non-profit moved into the building under the condition that it would be returned to the city, if the group ever left.</p><p>Now the Providence Journal reports that Urban League wants to sell its headquarters for $2.6 million.</p> Wed, 15 Jan 2014 19:10:09 +0000 John Bender 27718 at Major Rennovation Set For State's Largest Homeless Shelter <p>The state’s largest homeless shelter is about to get a badly-needed facelift, thanks to the General Assembly. The legislature appropriated one million dollars to upgrade Harrington Hall, a rundown-century-old gymnasium on the grounds of the Pastore Complex in Cranston.</p><p>Harrington Hall is in such poor shape they have to move cots and lay down tarps when it rains.&nbsp; And the roof isn’t the only problem. The university is calling the bill “heavy handed.”</p><p>Unless Smithfield and Bryant can come to an agreement, the legislation allows the town to bill the university for municipal services it uses.
