bike path en New Bikeway on Aquidneck Island in the Works <p>Progress continues for an 18-mile bike path on Aquidneck Island, which will extend from the new Sakonnet River Bridge in Portsmouth to the Newport beaches.&nbsp;</p><p>Tina Dolen, the Executive Director of the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission, says that ideas for a bikeway began in 2004 when the Commission produced the West Side Master Plan.&nbsp; She adds that this project will cost them less time and money than another bike project, the Shoreline Bikeway, also in the works.&nbsp;</p><p>Dolen states that this development will be beneficial for everybody.</p> Tue, 16 Jul 2013 18:28:42 +0000 Talia Ghazal 18519 at Bike paths are now ski trails <p>Cyclists wanting a clear ride on state bike paths during the winter will have to wait until the snow melts.<br><br>The Chief of Rhode Island State Parks, Robert Paquette, says the state does not clear bike paths during the winter. “You know, people use them more for cross country skiing in the winter so we don’t plow them, liability reasons. We don’t use salt because a lot of them go to water areas.
