Ian Donnis has been the political reporter for Rhode Island Public Radio since 2009. The Washington Post has repeatedly named him as one of Rhode Island’s best political reporters. In addition to other tasks, Ian tweets frequently at @IanDon, hosts RIPR’s weekly Political Roundtable, and contributes to the station’s On Politics blog. He was for many years a regular panelist on WPRI/WNAC-TV’s Newsmakers, and remains an occasional guest on RI-PBS' A Lively Experiment. Ian previously worked for the Providence Phoenix, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, and The Associated Press. His reporting has been recognized by the Associated Press, the New England Press Association, the Rhode Island Press Association, and Rhode Island for Community & Justice.

Chafee names Land as receiver for 38 Studios

Here’s the release from the office of Governor Lincoln Chafee:

Governor Lincoln D. Chafee today announced that attorney Richard J. Land will serve as 38 Studios’ Receiver as the Governor and the State of Rhode Island work to recoup as many taxpayer dollars as possible. Mr. Land has served as a court-appointed Receiver for a variety of businesses and has represented clients in all levels of state court in Rhode Island, in the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island, and the United State Bankruptcy Court for the District of Rhode Island.

Don’t overstate the importance of money in a Raimondo-Taveras gubernatorial showdown in 2014

State Treasurer Gina Raimondo’s impressive fundraising prowess will be among her assets if — as many expect – she runs for governor in 2014. Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, another prospective contender for the post,lagged behind Raimondo ($258,155) in Q2 even though he had solid numbers ($114,810).

But money isn’t everything in some contests, and there’s no guarantee the candidate with the biggest war chest will win the next gubernatorial election.

Why are there so few active tweeters in the General Assembly?

Switching to an iPhone from a BlackBerry was all it took for state Representative Jon Brien to become a Twitter enthusiast earlier this year.

The BlackBerry interface for Twitter was “useless,” and Brien says, “I really didn’t get Twitter.” But a new world of information and communication opened up when  he signed up for a Twitter handle on his iPhone last spring.
