PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island state police have shut down a Providence brothel and arrested 14 people associated with it.
The bust happened Saturday at a home on Ida Street. Captain James Demers says the operation was run by Teofilo Sarcedo, a native of the Dominican Republic who was in this country illegally.
"Well he's living in Providence presently," Demers says. "He had some immigration problems. He was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement."
This is one of the first crackdowns on prostitution since the legislature closed a loophole in state law that made prostitution legal provided it happened indoors.
