Alex Miller to Become Cicilline's Director of Community Relations
Alex Miller, deputy director of community relations for Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, is set to join Congressman David Cicilline's staff in August as director of community relations.
In a statement, Cicilline says, "Alex will be a strong asset for my office and help ensure that our staff continues to provide quality, effective constituent services for hardworking families in Rhode Island's First District."
Miller has worked for the City of Providence since July 2012. According to Miller's LinkedIn profile, he also served as campaign manager in Massachusetts for state Rep Marjorie Decker.
Via email, Miller says:
"I want to thank Mayor Taveras for the opportunity to work in his administration for the last year. It was an invaluable experience and I wish the Mayor and his staff all the best going forward. The new position with Congressman Cicilline's office is a great opportunity, and it will be a privilege to serve the residents of the 1st Congressional District of Rhode Island."
Taveras offered this comment in a statement:
“Alex is a tremendous young talent who we will be hearing a lot more from in the coming years. I appreciate his service to Providence’s residents while working in the Mayor’s Office and congratulate him on this next step forward.”
Miller previously worked on Frank Caprio's gubernatorial campaign in 2010 and in the treasurer's office during Caprio's time as treasurer. Miller is the nephew of state Senator Joshua Miller (D-Cranston).
The addition of Miller marks another change in Cicilline's staff after the congressman's district director, Chris Fierro, recently left to chair the Rhode Island Board of Review. Fierro was succeeded as district director by his deputy, former Bristol town administrator Diane Mederos
