Amnesty International Write-A-Thon is Sunday
By Scott MacKay
Amnesty International holds its 25th annual Write-A-Thon on Sunday (Dec.16th) between 1 and 5 p.m. in the Parish House at the First Unitarian Church in Providence. The church is located at the corner of Benefit and Benevolent Streets on the city’s East Side.
The Write-A-Thon is organized to help the public write letters on behalf of prisoners of conscience and people at risk.
The guest speaker this year will be Samy Ndayisaba, a refugee from Burundi and a survivor of war in his home country. He was also beaten almost to death in the Democratic Republic of Congo before being settled in Rhode Island.
U.S. Sen. Jack Reed is also scheduled to attend the event. Child care will be available.
