PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles says it's shutting down the Middletown location at the end of the week.
The DMV says the lease is up at its Middletown branch and the state is searching for a new location. In the meantime, the DMV's directing drivers on Aquidneck Island to use the Wakefield or Cranston locations.
Anyone scheduled for a driving test after Friday will take it instead at the location in Providence.
The DMV says employees at the Middletown location will be transferred to either Wakefield or Cranston.
The state is accepting proposals and evaluating new places for a branch on Aquidneck Island.
