Bakery workers being tested for salmonella

Providence, RI – Employees at a local bakery linked with a salmonella outbreak are being tested for the illness. DeFusco's bakery has been under investigation by the State Department of Health since last month's outbreak made nearly 70 people sick, and killed two.
Annmarie Beardsworth, spokesperson for the Department of Health, says all employees have submitted medical samples to test if they are carriers of the bacteria. "If we do find someone who may be a carrier, we want to get them treated so there isn't a change of them spreading the disease," she explains.
The Health Department says all remaining food and environmental samples have tested negative for salmonella, but DeFusco's must get state approval before reopening.
