Bill Fischer now working for the RI Democratic Party

The Rhode Island Democratic Party has bolstering its communications for the 2012 campaign season by hiring Bill Fischer, an experienced PR professional with a long resume in politics.

Fischer currently runs True North Communications. He worked for the state Senate in the late ’90s before serving as chief of staff during Sheldon Whitehouse’s tenure as attorney general.

Democratic Party executive director Stephanie DeSilva Mandeville says Fischer’s hire is efffective immediately and that he will serve as a communications consultant and an additional spokesperson for the party. His compensation is still being negotiated, she says.

“He has years of experience and with the party itself,” says DeSilva Mandeville, who previously worked in Fischer’s PR/communications shop.

Fischer has a sharp eye for talent, having mentored such operatives as West Warwick native Paul Tencher, now running the US Senate campaign for Indiana Democrat Joe Donnelly, Devin Driscoll, head of President Obama’s re-election campaign in Rhode Island, Jake Bissaillon, chief of staff for the Providence City Council, among others.
