Providence, RI – Less than a week after Rhode Island's House of Representatives approved civil unions for same sex couples, the state's largest health insurance company is also acknowledging the rights of gay partners.
Starting July 1st, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island will offer coverage for same sex couples that buy their own insurance.
To qualify, Rhode Islanders must prove that they've lived with their same sex partner for at least a year and offer documents showing that they've formed a civil union, marriage, or domestic partnership.
Children of domestic partners will also be eligible for health care coverage.
