Boy who died at Boy Scout camp identified

PROVIDENCE, RI – Hopkinton Police have released the name of the ten-year-old boy who died at a Boy Scout camp in Hopkinton Saturday. He was Patrick Hannon of Huntington, New York.

The cause of death is still under investigation but is not considered suspicious.

Dennis Preston, a spokesman for the Narragansett Council of the Boy Scouts, says the victim's troop left Camp Yagoog Saturday, one day earlier than planned.

"It was just a sense of their adult leaders and the staff that it was probably best for the boys to leave camp and address the spiritual and emotional issues that this tragedy raised," says Preston.

This is the first death at Camp Yagoog, says Preston, since it was founded 95 years ago.
