Breaking down Chafee's spending plan
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Last night, Governor Lincoln Chafee unveiled his first state budget proposal. The spending plan calls for Rhode Island to lower but broaden its sales tax, put into effect a new state education funding formula, and increase by three percent the amount state employees and teachers pay into the employee pension system.
