PROVIDENCE, R.I. – New data find Rhode Islanders in Bristol County make the most money, but not as much as they used to. The numbers from 2009 show Bristol County with the highest per capita personal income in Rhode Island.
The federal Bureau of Economic Analysis finds the average income there is more than $52,000 a year. That's almost $15,000 more than Providence's average.
Though Bristol County was highest, it also saw the biggest drop in personal income, falling almost three percent between 2008 and 2009.
Meanwhile Rhode Island's per capital personal income as a whole fell one percent during that time. With a $41,000 average income, Rhode Island hovers just above the nation's average of $39,000.
