PROVIDENCE, R.I. – First Congressional District candidates John Loughlin and David Cicilline will take part in a televised debate this evening.
Cicilline, the two-term mayor of Providence, has embraced a traditional Democratic message of defending working families. Loughlin, a three-term state rep from Tiverton, has countered with Republican themes about cutting federal spending and reducing the national deficit.
Both camps have intensified their attacks in the approach to the November 2nd election. The winner will replace Patrick Kennedy, who has held the First Congressional District seat since 1995.
Tonight's League of Women Voters debate will be broadcast from 8 to 9 on the Rhode Island News Channel and simulcast on WRNI.
