PROVIDENCE, RI – Governor Lincoln Chafee says he's "embarrassed" that Rhode Island does not have full equality for gays.
Interviewed by NPR's "Tell Me More", Chafee reflected on the General Assembly's passage of a civil unions law, rather than full same sex marriage rights which he supported.
"Rhode Island does not have full marriage equality and we're the state founded by Roger Williams and the greatest liberties granted to any colony in the world back in 1663 when we first got our charter and now we're trailing our other New England states," he says.
