PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Governor-elect Lincoln Chafee was non-committal Wednesday when asked whether he hopes to see state Education Commissioner Deborah Gist remain in Rhode Island.
Chafee credited Gist with helping establish a funding formula for Rhode Island schools. But he wouldn't commit to retaining Gist in her position.
"I'm not making any presumptions on who's going to be on what time and she's shaking things up in Rhode Island and that's good - and she has a lot of fans here," Chafe says. "I recognize that."
Chafee spoke during his first post-election news conference, at his campaign headquarters in Warwick.
