Chafee wants transportation chief to stay on

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Governor-elect Lincoln Chafee wants state Transportation Director Michael Lewis to remain in that job.

Chafee calls Lewis an effective leader who has demonstrated vision and strong managerial skills. The governor-elect says he asked Lewis to stay in his post after talking with a number of other qualified candidates.

Lewis was named transportation director by Gov. Carcieri in 2008. Lewis has overseen the reconstruction of the interchange between I-95 and I-195, among other projects.

In related news, state economic development head Keith Stokes says the Chafee team has not yet asked him to continue in that role.
