Ciresi gets extra week of freedom
PROVIDENCE, RI – A North Providence attorney who's been sentenced to more than five years in prison for his role in a bribery scheme has been granted a six-day reprieve in reporting to prison. Robert Ciresi asked for a 30-day postponement to the start of his sentence but federal prosecutors granted only six days. That pushes his reporting date back to September 6th. Ciresi is also appealing the conviction to a federal appeals court in Boston.
Ciresi was convicted of bribery and extortion for facilitating bribes between three North Providence town councillors and developers seeking zoning changes. The town councilors -- Joseph Burchfield, Raymond Douglas III, and John Zambarano -- are serving prison sentences ranging from five-and-a-half- to six-and-a-half- years in prison.
