Club shut-down until hearing

Providence, R.I. – The Board of Licenses in Providence is shutting down a strip club where a man was killed during a weekend brawl.

Yesterday, a police detective described a scene of chaotic violence at Club Balloons early Sunday, when a man was fatally shot outside. The board agreed to temporarily shut the club, effective immediately.

Representatives from the club will have a chance at a future hearing to argue in favor of reopening it. A lawyer for the club said yesterday his client was willing to shut the business temporarily in hopes of making it ultimately safer.
