PROVIDENCE, RI – The Coast Guard Cutter "Willow" is back at its base in Newport after a chilly six-week operation.
The cutter and its crew spent 43 days patrolling the Arctic and conducting safety operations with the Canadian navy and coast guard, along with the Danish navy. They looked at the best way to conduct search and rescue operations around remote villages and mapped out the best navigation routes to those villages.
The crew of the Willow also took part in naval warfare training and clean up exercises should there ever be a major spill far from shore.
