Congressional delegation expresses shock over Ariz. shooting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – "Shocked and devastated." That was Congressman Jim Langevin's reaction to the shooting of Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. But Langevin says he will do nothing special to enhance his personal security.

They sat together on the Armed Services Committee and Congressman Jim Langevin calls Gabrielle Giffords a good friend. He was horrified to hear she was shot while meeting with constituents at a Tucson grocery store.

"I'm absolutely shocked and devastated by this senseless act of violence," Langevin says. "Gabby is a wonderful woman, a wonderful member of Congress, a great public servant and a good friend of mine. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family and all the other victims and their families right now."

U.S. Capitol Police have advised all members of Congress to take "reasonable and prudent" precautions to protect themselves. But Langevin says he plans no changes in his lifestyle.
