PROVIDENCE, RI – A four-year-old conservative think tank is dissolving after an internal dispute over the group's direction.
The Ocean State Policy Research Institute (OSPRI) was formed to challenge what its founder called a surplus of liberal groups in Rhode Island. OSPRI's board got rid of its founder, William Felkner. The group's executive director, Michael Stenhouse, says the board had conflicting views about how to be effective.
"Rather than split the baby and only pick one, basically, OSPRI said maybe it's best if we take these two personalities, allow them to do their own things and we won't have to pick one or another," he says.
Stenhouse says he's forming a new group, the Rhode Island Center for Freedom and Prosperity. Felkner couldn't be reached for comment for this report.
