Providence, RI – A budget unveiled Thursday night by Cranston Mayor Allan Fung includes an almost four percent property tax increase. Fung says the median Cranston household will pay about another 160 dollars in property taxes under his budget. The mayor says he's tried to minimize the taxpayer impact, but was handcuffed by longstanding pension and retiree healthcare obligations, among other factors. "What is extremely frustrating is we're continuing to pay for a lot of these legacy costs that for many years' administrations have buried their heads on, and it's coming to a head during the worst fiscal times imaginable." Fung says his third budget cuts city workers for the third straight year, this time by seven people. The mayor's spending plan also includes more than two million dollars in new school funding.
