A journalism scholarship fund has been established in the name of Peter Lord, the superb Providence Journal environmental reporter who died in April. The deadline for making contributions — June 30 — is fast approaching, as a family member notes:
As many of you know, we decided to start a journalism scholarship fund in Pete’s name at URI. It has recently come to my attention that June 30 is the cut-off for raising these funds. We are very grateful for all of the donations thus far but we are-kind of surprisingly-far from our goal. If you’ve already given, thank you. If you haven’t, please consider giving, even if it’s just a little bit. A great man has died and we would like to honor him by sending a kid to journalism school, something he would have been behind wholeheartedly. Please pass this on to anyone who knew Pete. Think of all the time he spent with you or your kids on Boy Scout stuff, all the volunteering, mentoring, teaching, helping, coaching, etc. he did over the years. Think of all the times he made you laugh. He was flippin’ hilarious! He was one excellent dude. Help us honor him. Thank you.
(PS I think part of the issue is that a lot of people who knew and loved Pete simply don’t know about this blog or the fund. Please help spread the word!)
