The Department of Environmental Management will host Rhode Island Agriculture Day at the State House today with a number of activities, including the announcement of the 17 grant recipients of the Local Agriculture and Seafood Act.
Each grant of up to $20,000 will help small or beginning farmers and local seafood businesses promote and market their products. The event will also showcase the state’s agriculture and local seafood industries, and promote the Get Fresh, Buy Local campaign.
The DEM says the event is an opportunity to recognize the state’s 1.7 billion dollar agriculture and green industries. About 50 exhibits from farmers, land trusts, government agencies and nonprofits will be on display at the State House Rotunda throughout the day.
