DEM To Start Impact Assessment Of Possible Federal Environmental Budget Cuts

Mar 31, 2017

The state Department of Environmental Management is about to begin an assessment of the potential effects of possible federal environmental spending cuts.

It’s a move requested by State Representative Lauren Carson of Newport.

“About 20 to 25 percent of our DEM budget is funded by federal dollars so this money that goes to waste water treatment plants, drinking water programs, beaches, is definitely going to be affected by the new Trump budget.”

Carson says although the federal budget won’t be finalized until the fall, Rhode Island officials should start thinking about which environmental programs are most important to Rhode Island.
