PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles says it's opening a temporary location in Middletown.
The temporary office at 999 West Main Road opens early next month, and will stay open until a permanent location is ready.
Drivers on Aquidneck Island have been traveling the more than 20 miles to the Wakefield or Cranston locations since the Middletown branch closed last February.
Less than two months after the branch closed, the governor replaced the head of the DMV with interim administrator Lisa Holley. She has been charged with shortening the wait time and improving customer service.
