PROVIDENCE, RI – Brendan P. Doherty, former Rhode Island State Police Superintendent turned Republican candidate for the US House, has raised more than a quarter of a million dollars.
When federal campaign finance reports are due on Friday, the Doherty campaign says it will report raising more than 300-thousand dollars.
It's been some 50 days since Doherty announced he was running for Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District.
He's challenging incumbent Democrat David Cicilline whose office has yet to release fundraising numbers.
Democrats have held the seat since Patrick Kennedy first won it in 1994.
But back in 1988 Republican Ronald Machtley held it for six years.
