PROVIDENCE, RI – A well-known education reform leader is speaking in Rhode Island today. Geoffrey Canada founded the Harlem Children's Zone in New York City. The initiative aims to raise student performance with a combination of high expectations in the classroom and extra services for families, such as health clinics. Canada is speaking today at the Rhode Island Convention Center, at an event sponsored by Family Services of Rhode Island. The group is working to bring a program modeled on the Harlem Children's Zone to an elementary school on Providence's South Side.
