Electric Boat expansion bringing 400 jobs

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Electric Boat has announced expansion plans for Quonset Point.
The company, which is a subsidiary of General Dynamics, says it will be hiring 400 people between now and the end of 2012.

Company spokesman Robert Hamilton says the hiring is the result of a doubling of the Navy's order for submarines. "The Navy will be ordering two submarines a year for several years as it expands the Virginia class and it's the first time since 1989 that they've done so," says Hamilton.

The new hires will raise employment at the Quonset Point facility to nearly 2,500.
