PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Two New England shipyards including one in Rhode Island have been fined by the Environmental Protection Agency for violating federal environmental laws.
Promet Marine Services, which builds, repairs and retrofits vessels in Providence, will pay $290,000 to settle claims that it violated federal clean air and water laws.
Rose's Oil Service of Gloucester, Massachusetts will pay 130-thousand dollars to resolve claims it violated federal water and oil pollution prevention laws.
Both settlements include certifications by the shipyards that they are now complying with the law.
