Providence, R.I. – Rhode Islanders whose expertise was called on to assist with the Gulf of Mexico oil spill are scheduled to address the state's Emergency Management Advisory Council.
Among those expected to appear at Tuesday's meeting at the Community College of Rhode Island's Warwick campus is URI associate dean of oceanography and maritime law expert Dennis Nixon.
Nixon will brief members on the latest oil spill modeling software and other technologies, and highlight ongoing cleanup efforts.
URI Marine Superintendent will share his experiences and role in his mission to track and sample subsurface oil.
Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts says oil from the Gulf spill is not expected to reach Rhode Island waters, but the state needs to be informed about all kinds of disasters.
