Fatal sledding accident closes hill in city park

Jan 4, 2013

(PROVIDENCE, RI) A Providence teenager has died in a sledding accident at a city park. Providence police say they were called to Neutaconkanut Park Wednesday afternoon on a report of a girl injured while sledding. The victim was identified as 17-year-old Alexandria Alvarez of Larch Street in Providence.  She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead a few hours later.
The park in the Silver Lake neighborhood has been closed to sledding. The city is installing snow fences at the top and bottom of the slope and a park ranger has been assigned to the park to prevent people from sledding.
