Federal immigration official wants Wyatt case dismissed

PROVIDENCE, RI – A federal immigration official wants a civil rights claim brought by the family of a detainee who died of advanced liver cancer at the Wyatt detention center in Central Falls dismissed. Government attorneys for Lawrence Smith say the detentions operation coordinator had no way of knowing that Jason Ng was mistreated at Wyatt. A lawsuit by Ng's family says the Chinese computer engineer was abused at the Central Falls facility and died of liver cancer in 2008 within days of being diagnosed. Smith's lawyers maintain their client was not informed Ng had any serious medical condition.
