Federal prosecutors in RI want Urcioli to begin 3-year sentence
Providence, R.I. – Federal prosecutors in Rhode Island want a former hospital executive convicted of corruption to report to prison now that his appeal has been rejected.
Yesterday, the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the fraud and conspiracy convictions of Robert Urciuoli, the former president and CEO of Roger Williams
Medical Center. Urciuoli was convicted of paying off a state senator for political favors.
He had been free on bail pending his appeal. But prosecutors argued in court papers filed Wednesday that his bail should be revoked and that he should be forced to report to prison to start serving his three-year sentence.
Urciuoli's lawyer has not yet filed a response.
