Firefighters battle Pawtucket blaze
By FLO JONIC
Providence, R.I. – Pawtucket firefighters are still on the scene of a seven alarm blaze that has destroyed at least half of a block-long mill complex.
The blaze was reported at 11:20 pm Wednesday at an old brick mill complex on Goff Avenue in Pawtucket. The old Union Wadding mill had been partially converted to apartments. Pawtucket Fire Chief William Sisson says everyone got out safely.
"The fire was on the other end of the building. Residents were alerted by police and fire personnel to evacuate the building," he says.
The fire destroyed roughly half of the 450,000 square foot building. The chief says the investigation into the cause of the fire will begin as soon as firefighters can get in to look around.
