Warwick, R.I. – The first store has reopened inside a flood-damaged shopping mall in Rhode Island, nearly seven weeks after it was inundated by several feet of water from the Pawtuxet River.
The Sports Authority on the second floor of the Warwick Mall reopened yesterday morning. It was not damaged by the water, but the store manager says air quality had been a concern.
Record-setting rains in March caused the mall to flood with several feet of water in March and April. It has been closed since then.
Managing partner Aram Garabedian has said a Target store is expected to reopen in July, the food court in August, a JC Penney in October and a Macy's should reopen in time for Christmas.
